Fussa festival

This past week has flown by! Last weekend we went to a festival in Fussa. We tried some new foods and Della had fun catching some goldfish (only one of which is still living). We had a lot of fun and enjoyed seeing the vendors, decorations, and performers.

On Wednesday morning we made a spontaneous decision to take the base commuter bus into Tokyo. We spent the night at the military hotel there, which was really nice and very cheap! Tokyo was not quite what I expected. In spite of its sprawling population, the buildings were short (earthquake precaution), the traffic was congested but calm, and the people were polite and quiet (very little public use of cell phones).

Our hotel was located in an area of Tokyo that is filled with embassies from around the world, so there were many westerners and English-speaking Japanese. We took the girls to a modeling agency and they have already had two offers for auditions. We haven't committed to anything yet because getting around Tokyo is no easy feat and most of the photo shoots are really far from us. As we were filling out the paperwork required to launch Della's modeling career, I had my first real Japanese Starbucks drink in Tokyo (the base coffee shop which brews Starbucks coffee doesn't count). It was excellent- but they didn't have decaf- not so excellent for Morgan! For dinner, we ate at a tiny Japanese restaurant where we sat on tatami mats without our shoes. Della loved it and was brave in trying many new foods and drinking green tea.

We really enjoyed our short overnight stay in Tokyo and we plan to do it again soon. However, one thing we're starting to find is that it is really hard to get out and do things with two little children. They are troopers but that being said, they do need to eat, sleep, and use the potty/changing tables! Sometimes we are working with limited mobility! Finally, we are still living without our belongings. Although we're managing, we are really missing random things like our can opener, our bathmats, our iPod dock, our tall drinking glasses, our bed, and (I hate to admit it) our TV. They should be here in about two weeks. Gotta run, Morgan is up for a feeding!!
