Is no news good news? Maybe. The sensationalism in the media is dying down a little. Rob went to a briefing for the med group yesterday, and the base commanders were pretty upset with the American media for inaccurate coverage of some the data they are reporting. According to them, there is no immediate concern for our safety at Yokota. Radiation levels here are insignificant and they intend to monitor the air regularly. So minus the fear factor, we're doing a little better around here. However, at midnight last night a Japanese siren sounded that we haven't heard before. It was followed by Japanese announcement. We tried to find an American news report on the radio and TV but nothing was being reported. Nothing happened, so who knows what that was about but it really scared us for a little while. About an hour later, Della came in complaining of a stuffy nose. This morning we all have colds. Perfect timing. We had just hit a stride. None of us had been sick for nearly one month- almost a record for us since we we've been here. Needless to say, we didn't get any sleep last night. These situations continue to foster my intimate love affair with espresso.
Unfortunately, the disaster here has overshadowed some really fun things around here. Morgan took her first steps yesterday afternoon! At first, I don't think she knew she was doing it. She was holding on to a helium balloon and I think she thought it was holding her up! She did it again later without the balloon and she was so proud. She is getting her top teeth- they are huge and make her miserable. Can't wait to see what she looks like when they come all the way in. Her first birthday is Saturday!!! So hard to believe. It's kind of a hard time to want to celebrate, but we'll try our best to make it special. More later- we hope to get out of here, but it sounds like the airport is crazy.
